Caterina Roppo
Galateo Ancestrale stems from the convergence of Caterina Roppo’s artistic exploration and Incalmi’s material research.
At the core of the research lies breath. Not only a physiological act, but a metaphor of presence, transformation and awareness. Just as breath moves through the body, matter moves through the works, generating forms that oscillate between fluidity and permanence. The surfaces originate from textiles belonging to the Trayma series, a liminal material within the artist’s research, later crystallized in copper through an experimental process that arrests their movement and fixes their folds into a new sculptural condition. Fabric, usually associated with lightness and movement, is thus transformed into a solid and stratified material capable of evoking mineral landscapes and primordial archetypes. The works, including the horizontal suspension Savasana, the vertical suspension Prana, and the vessels Ayama and Seva, take shape as tangible manifestations of a broader reflection on the relationship between vital energy, balance and form. Through the dialogue between manual gesture and technological experimentation, Galateo Ancestrale redefines the boundaries between art, design and sculpture, proposing an aesthetic of matter that invites contemplation and a deeper rediscovery of the relationship with time and with the self. In a time marked by fractures and constant acceleration, Galateo Ancestrale also emerges as an exercise in slowing down and listening. The artist suggests that peace is not an abstract or ideal condition, but a daily practice that begins with minimal gestures: breathing, observing, pausing. Within this perspective, breath becomes a primary form of awareness, an original rhythm capable of reconnecting the individual to a more balanced relationship with the self, with others and with the space we inhabit.
