230 Volt-i

Designer

Giulio Iacchetti

230 Volt-i is an installation, conceived by designer Giulio Iacchetti, that builds upon the formal qualities of the switch plate to develop a project capable of exploring new expressive possibilities. The three-module switch plate from Vimar’s iconic Plana residential series becomes the element from which a collection of faces takes shape, metaphorically transforming into a mask with a prominent mouth, where the controls take center stage. A mass-produced object, designed to be neutral and invisible, thus reveals its presence through a multitude of interpretations.

To bring these 3D-printed Volt-i to life, Giulio Iacchetti enlisted 37 internationally renowned artists for a collaborative project that seeks to offer different responses to the same challenge: transforming an everyday object into a face. The concept unfolds within a space designed as a contemporary art gallery.

On a gray wall, the Volt-i units, mounted on Plana brackets, create an immersive and surreal effect, actively engaging visitors, who are invited to click on the controls to customize the appearance of the face as they wish.
